European Union lawmakers are proposing to ban flavored heated tobacco products — a category that covers vaping — in a move they say is intended to protect the health of young people after a “significant” rise in sales of novel heated tobacco products.The EU has set itself a goal of creating a ‘tobacco free generation’, and having less than 5% of the population using tobacco by 2040, as part of a major anti-cancer drive.

On March 25th, 2022, the Northwest Territories announced that it’s ban on the sale of flavoured vaping products will take effect. This ban was intended to better protect the public and youth from vaping as “a significant health hazard… causing acute lung injury”, despite overwhelming evidence that these events were linked to illegal THC products purchased from the illicit market, not legal nicotine vape products.

NSW Health has seized more than $1 million worth of illegal e-cigarettes and liquids containing nicotine since January 2022. Since 1 October 2021, products containing nicotine are only available for people over the age of 18 when prescribed by a medical practitioner for smoking cessation purposes. These products are only available from an Australian pharmacy or via importation into Australia with a valid prescription. For all other retailers in NSW, the sale of e-cigarettes or e-liquids containing nicotine is illegal. This also includes online sales.

The government of Thailand has rejected the efforts of one cabinet minister to legalize and regulate nicotine vaping products, and will instead reconfirm the country’s ban on sales and import of e-cigarettes. Thailand’s vape ban has been in place since 2014, and has resulted in notoriously overzealous enforcement.

Mexico will ban sales of all vaping and heated tobacco products, by decree of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador. The president signed the order in a ceremony held during a press conference Tuesday. The presidential decree was announced to coincide with World No Tobacco Day, the annual World Health Organization (WHO) celebration of tobacco control efforts. A WHO representative was on hand to give the Mexican president an award in “recognition of his leadership and unwavering support to strengthen tobacco control measures in Mexico.”

Though brands of oral nicotine pouches were launched throughout the 2010s, it wasn’t until 2020 that they really took off. Sales of oral nicotine pouches have exploded in the years since, with sales increasing 541 percent between 2019 and 2022 — PMI’s Zyn having the largest market share. Not only ZYN ,but also sales of many nicotine pouches brands such as VELO, LYFT, WHITE FOX, DZRT,HELWIT,KILLA,PABLO are increasing sharply. It comes as no surprise that nicotine pouch use is now on the upswing among school-age children. In California, 1.1 percent of high schoolers reported using them regularly in 2023 – a number that nearly doubled in one year. Nicotine pouches were also the number two most common tobacco product eighth graders used in 2023, second only to vapes.
